Privacy Policy — ShelfCub

Last updated: 16 September 2026

ShelfCub plays audiobooks from folders you choose on a tablet or SD card, and optionally from an Audiobookshelf server you connect. This policy describes how the app handles data.

We collect nothing

The developer receives no data from the app. There is no account to create with us, analytics, crash reporting, telemetry, advertising, or third-party tracking. The app contains no advertising SDK or analytics SDK.

Local audiobooks stay local

A parent chooses folders through Android's system folder picker in Parent Settings. ShelfCub uses the access granted by that picker to read audio and artwork in those folders. It does not scan the whole device or request broad storage access.

Local audio, filenames, metadata, artwork, and listening progress are not uploaded. There are no online cover or metadata lookups. Local playback and the bundled demo work without an internet connection or an Audiobookshelf account.

Optional Audiobookshelf connection

If you configure Audiobookshelf, ShelfCub connects to the server address you enter. Your sign-in, library requests, cover images, audio, and server-book listening progress travel between the tablet and that server. The server operator controls how that server handles this information. No server address is built into ShelfCub.

What is stored on the device

ShelfCub keeps the following in its private app storage:

Local-book progress stays on the device. Server-book progress is also reported to the configured Audiobookshelf server. The parent PIN is stored as a salted cryptographic hash, never as the digits you typed. Cloud backup of app data is disabled.

Removing an approved folder removes its books from ShelfCub and releases the app's access; it does not delete your original audio files. Uninstalling deletes ShelfCub's private app data and downloads. Audiobooks in your chosen folders remain, as does information already held by your Audiobookshelf server.

Children

ShelfCub is designed for children. The developer receives no personal information from children or other users through the app. There is no chat, social feature, advertising, or in-app web browsing.

Parents decide what a child can reach through approved local folders, Audiobookshelf account permissions, and the app's parental settings. Parents can set a PIN to protect settings and folder selection.

Permissions and access

ShelfCub does not request contacts, location, camera, microphone, or broad photo or storage permissions.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with an updated date.
